SEMPAD Le Connetable: ASSISES D ANTIOCHE. Venice Typographie de Saint Lazare 1876 First and only edition of a corpus of rules and court decisions of the Frankish Principality of Antioch in northern Syria, dating from the 12th and early 13th centuries. An invaluable primary source for the Levant, specially for Cyprus and for the coexistence of Armenians, Greeks, Syrians, and Franks in these regions during the late Middle Ages. It cover rules and decisions on trade, weddings, heritage, rental of houses, taxation, relations among nobles and peasants and other social matters. Preserved by Armenians in Cilicia after the fall of the Principality in 1268, the texts were rediscovered and first published in this edition. Parallel text in French and original Armenian. In folio (30 × 23 cm). Contemporary fine vellum over marbled boards, preserving original paper covers, some light scattered spotting .Complete: [23], 93 pp. Overall a very good copy of a very rare work. A prime source of high value for the people, customs, locations, and basic structures of the multinational society of eastern Anatolia in the late Middle Ages.
