Jean Maingre, known as Boucicaut (1366–1421), was a skilled French military leader who took part in the battle of Nicopolis (1396) against the Ottomans. Escaping captivity, he was sent with a small force of only 1,200 men to assist the Byzantines
around Constantinople (1399–1401), leaving
one of the earliest vivid accounts of the Ottoman threat. His exploits proved that a larger, well-disciplined army could resist Ottoman advances.
Boucicaut traveled widely in the Levant, later serving Italian cities and campaigning in several parts of Greece.
His narrative preserves precious and unique information on the late medieval Levant. Scarce.
Not in Atabey or Blackmer.
