ANDREA CAMBINI: Commentario de Andrea Cambini Fiorentino della origine de Turchi et Imperio della Casa Ottomanna. Venetia 1540 Third edition (first published in 1529). In 8vo (16 × 11 cm). Contemporary 16th-century vellum, slightly rubbed and rebacked. Complete: 72 pp. Overall clear and fine. Cambini (c.1450–1527), Italian humanist and writer, produced one of the earliest works on the Ottoman Empire, published posthumously. It contains several valuable primary sources for the fall of Constantinople, based on the testimonies of survivors. Cambini decribed Ottoman organization and discipline, offering a comprehensive contemporary account of the rise of the Ottomans and the fall of Byzantium. As Atabey notes, this is an important work. Rare. References: Atabey 186; not in Blackmer.
