CHATEAUBRIAND F.: Itineraire de Paris a Jerusalem et de Jerusalem a Paris en allant par la Grece en revenant par l Egypte....Paris 1812 Third edition. In 8vo 20 x 13 cm, contemporary full leather slightly rubbed. Complete in three volumes: half titles, titles, [110], 275 p., 408 p., 375 p., folding facsimile in Arabic, and one large folding map (76 x 50 cm) of the travel. Text clean. Overall very good condition. Chateaubriand combined his experiences of travel in the Morea and Attica in 1806–7 with invented stories, weaving a strong philhellenism that promoted French enthusiasm for Greece. The success of his travel account paved the way for several later publications. A classical travel account for the Levant, this edition includes a huge and rare copper-engraved map. References: Atabey 225 (fourth edition), Blackmer 328 (this edition)
