Original beautiful publisher’s hard covers, spine sunned. Text clean and bright.Complete: 421 p. with numerous illustrations, mainly early photographs within the text. Overall in almost fine condition. Centerwall (1844–1923), a Swedish archaeologist and traveler, records here his explorations in continental Greece and Asia Minor during the early 1880s. After extended stays in Athens, he toured widely across the Morea and central Greece (Delphi, Volo, Larissa, Farsalos, etc.). He later continued to Smyrna, Ephesos, Sardes, and Pergamos. Alongside his archaeological reports, Centerwall provides detailed ethnographic and regional observations, with accounts extending to places beyond his immediate research interests, such as Chios and Tenedos. A valuable Swedish scientific travel account documenting both archaeological findings and contemporary life in Greece and the Levant.
