In 8vo 16 x 10 cm, contemporary full leather, edges of spines slightly chipped, one cover with wear. Text clean, some scattered foxing in volume two. Complete: two volumes [14], 352 p.; [8], 392 p., and the folding map of the Levant (not in Zacharakis). A very good set. A RARE book providing a detailed image of the Ottoman Levant during the mid-18th century. Full of geographical and historical details, the author explained the administrative structure of the Ottoman Empire, its trade, population, alliances, and negotiating skills, which allowed the Ottomans, although they lost the war of 1737–39, to gain territories through diplomacy. Volume two contains, at the end, the clauses of the treaty. References: Atabey 677, not in Blackmer
