First edition in German of this important Philhellenic work. In 8vo 20 x 13 cm, contemporary boards lightly rubbed. Complete: title, [16], 266 p., and the six lithographs of the heroes of the Greek Revolution, as called for. Text mostly clean, with very light scattered spotting on a few pages. Overall in very good condition.
Voutier, a French officer, came to Greece and fought with the Greeks during the early phase of the Revolution.
His account became a classic in Europe at the time and
boost Philhllenism and still provides precious eyewitness details on events and people of the period in Greece.
The German edition, which played an important role in keeping the Philhellenic climate very active in Germany, is much rarer than the French and
includes more plates of Heroes of the Revolution, all from original drawings made in the Peloponnese. Scarce edition.
