Lyon, Imprimerie du Roi, 1787 First and only edition of a contemporary official Royal French Decree regulating the fish trade with the Levant. Printed on blue Royal paper. In 4to 24 x 16 cm, contemporary paper covers with fine lettering on the spine: Arret sur la morue, 11 Feb. 1787. Text clean and bright, with long contemporary manuscript instructions added at the end regarding the implementation of the Royal Decree. Overall in fine condition. The Levant trade was strictly regulated in the 18th century, as each power sought to benefit from the Ottoman Levant while protecting its own interests. Here is a unique original regulation concerning fishing to and from the Levant, providing subsidies and separate taxes on fish species depending on their provenance and destination. An exceptionally early international trade regulation, almost unique for Levantine commerce. A real rarity.
