JOHN JACKSON: Tagebuch einer im Jahre 1797 unternommenem Landreise aus OstIndien nach Europa durch die Asiatische und Europaische Turkei.. Weimar 1803 First edition in German. In 8vo 20 x 12 cm, modern attractive hardcover boards, some light foxing and spotting. Complete: title, [14], 188 p., [1], and one folding map of Anatolia and Thrace engraved in Weimar, as called for. Overall very good. Jackson, a British officer in India, traveled overland to Europe in an effort to investigate alternative routes. He followed unbeaten tracks through territories almost completely unknown to Europeans, in Armenia and Anatolia. His travel account is extremely valuable, as very few Europeans had crossed Anatolia during the 18th century due to the prevailing chaotic situation. Jackson kept a daily calendar and recorded accurate notes for each place, as a trained officer. References: Not in Atabey or Blackmer, both English and German editions. Rare.
