Jackson, a British officer in India, traveled overland to Europe in an effort to investigate alternative routes. He followed unbeaten tracks through territories almost completely unknown to Europeans, in Armenia and Anatolia. His travel account is extremely valuable, as very few Europeans had crossed Anatolia during the 18th century due to the prevailing chaotic situation.
