Chateaubriand combined his experiences of travel in the Morea and Attica in 1806–7 with invented stories, weaving a strong philhellenism that promoted French enthusiasm for Greece.
The success of his travel account paved the way for several later publications. A classical travel account for the Levant, this edition includes a huge and rare copper-engraved map.
