RAYBAUD MAXIME: Memoires sur la Grece pour server a l histoire de la guerre d Independence. Paris 1824-1825 First edition, complete in two volumes. In 8vo 21 x 13 cm, contemporary leather over marbled boards. Text clean and bright. Complete: [15], 528 p., [2], 503 p., and three folding maps as called for. Fine ex-libris of the Château de Orneson in the front pastedown. Overall in almost fine condition, a lovely fresh copy. According to Atabey, this is one of the best books on the Greek War of Independence. Raybaud made several journeys to Greece between 1821 and 1828, when he finally settled in Patras and founded the newspaper Courier d’Orient. He was one of the French officers sent to Greece by the Paris Greek Committee in 1825, at the most critical moment of the struggle. References: Atabey 1014, Blackmer 1398
