ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΣ ΣΟΥΤΣΟΣ [ALEXANDRE SOUTZO]: Histoire de la Revolution Grecque. Paris Firmin Didot 1829 First edition. In 8vo 21 x 14 cm, contemporary leather over marbled boards. Complete: half title, portrait, title, 466 p. Text clean and bright, with very light spotting on a few pages. Overall in very good plus condition. Alexander Soutso (1803–1863), from a leading Greek Fanariote family of Constantinople, was the nephew of the ruler of Wallachia in 1820. After the insurrection in the Principalities, he escaped to Paris for studies, and in 1825 he came to Nafplio to take part in the Revolution. After 1827 and his return to Paris, he wrote this book, a contribution to the history of the Greek Revolution by an eyewitness Greek. Very few complete histories of the events in Greece written by Greeks reached the European audience. Soutsos, with his excellent command of French, his studies, and his important testimonies from the field, became a primary source for European Philhellenism.
