First and only edition. In 4to (23x15 cm), in original publisher’s paper covers, spine opened, old stamps on title. Text clean and bright. Complete: 81 p. and one folding map. Overall in good condition.
An extremely rare and unrecorded account on Epirus, published in Pest in 1854 — the same year that local Greeks initiated a short-lived uprising with the unofficial support of the Greek government. Within the context of the Crimean War, the intervention of England and France quickly suppressed all Greek efforts.
This publication was
most probably a Greek attempt to influence German and Austrian public opinion in favor of the Greek cause, as both powers maintained official neutrality at the time. The movement in Epirus ultimately failed, making this publication a unique and invaluable testimony of a forgotten episode of mid-19th century Greek revolutionary efforts.
