Brailsford (1873–1958), a British journalist and writer, produced one of the most
detailed ethnological surveys of Macedonia. He examined the complex racial provenance of the Muslim population, noting the prevalence of converts, and underlined the absence of national conscience among the Christian peasants. A valuable and influential sourcefor the study of Macedonia in the early 20th century.
