GREECE, PELOPONNESE (CASTALDI), CITTA DI CORON. A copper engraved map of Koroni, in Messinia (26x19cm), in a sheet of (39x25cm), UNRECORDED in Zacharakis, Bifolco “Italian maps of 16th century” TAV.685, citing only five copies in all Public Libraries worldwide (Venezia, Roma, New York, Yale and Stanford), extremely rare, latest appearance in Christies (1998) n.992, mentioned by Valerio. According to Bifolco it appeared in a composite work in 1569, probably the first edition was much earlier, perhaps around 1530/1545, the landscape, the clear marked named monasteries and villages around, the detailed street plan etc., clearly indicate a still Venetian Koroni (that means that the map is from around 1500), those things make it one of the earliest detailed surviving maps of any Greek place. A light misfold, otherwise in almost fine condition. Of the utmost historical importance and rarity.
