GREECE, NAVAL BATTLE IN THE AEGEAN IN 1659.
A fine copper engraved view (32x30cm) of a naval battle, during Cretan war in the Aegean between Venetian and Ottoman fleets, published by Merian in 1660, Sovatzi was then an Ottoman naval base near Smyrne, in the straits of Chios that Ottomans used to send provisions at their troops in Crete, the Venetians attacked and destroyed the Turkish fleet in May 1659, a naval victory that helped Venetians to keep Candia safe for many years, light wear, overall in very good condition, a rare depiction of a naval battle in the Aegean.
