Allgemeine Zeitung 5th of September 1822 A highly detailed article regarding the surrender of Athens to the Greeks, authored by a French general and eyewitness. Many Turks are fleeing to the port of Piraeus, while others are held captive by the Greeks on the Acropolis. The French general requested the release of the prisoners; the Greeks allowed all the men to depart, but the women refused to follow them. Upon the general's arrival in Smyrna, the Turks there were shouting, "Long live the King and the Franks!"It is rumored that 78 Turkish warships landed troops near Patras, which moved immediately toward the Isthmus to reinforce the forces of Khurshid Pasha in Thessaly. The Turks are departing from Nafpaktos and heading toward the Morea; simultaneously, Mavrokordatos is doing the same, departing from Missolonghi.
