Many fear that the Greeks of Smyrna may suffer the same fate as the inhabitants of Pergamon. Various news from Constantinople: A fire in the city's districts has destroyed the arsenal. Two thousand five hundred cannons and numerous other supplies were consumed by the flames. The Greeks believe this to be a sign from God. Later news from Smyrna reveals that the massacre of the Greeks in Pergamon has indeed taken place, carried out as retaliation for the raids by Greek ships in the Smyrna region.
