BENJAMIN BRUE: JOURNAL DE LA CAMPAGNE QUE LE GRAND VESIR ALI PASHA A FAITE EN 1715 POUR LA RECONQUETE DE LA MOREE. PARIS 1870 FIRST EDITION, in 8vo, contemporary publishers covers, text clean and bright, complete 105p., a very light moisture at the lower margin, otherwise in fine condition. Brue was the official French translator (dragoman) in Constantinople. In 1843 Finlay found an anonymous manuscript in Turkish, relating in details the Ottoman campaign of 1715 in Peloponnesus which resulted in the reconquest of the area in one hundred days. Brue took time to evaluate and publish this manuscript,very few Ottoman accounts have survived and this one relate, outside the conquest of Morea, step by step the itinerary of the Ottoman army, its provisions, the roads from Adrinople to Methoni, prices of food and places along the way etc, a very precious account for early 17th century Greece, as the author of the account had access in the official Ottoman administration data.
