In small 8vo, contemporary full vellum slightly soiled, text lightly dusty in some pages, some scattered spotting, some general wear in few pages, complete 364p. and one hundred ninety three (193) fine woodcuts in the text, overall in very good condition It is a classic example of a popular book of the Spanish Enlightenment that was widely used for education and moral instruction in early 19th century. Barcelona was a major hub for high quality printing in Spain that period. The book contain the amazing amount of 193 woodcuts depicting almost all Aesop fables. The translation by Villalba provide the text only in Spanish intended for a broader audience. The woodcuts were more folk art in style, simple, Bold and often full of character. It include a full page woodcut of Aesop. The fables provided a shorthand for human behavior. They represent the Greek foundation of Western thought. Aesop (c.620-564BC) was the most well known of the ancient Greeks in a wider public.Generations of Europeans have grow up with these fables that boosted a positive attitude to everything Greek. A very rare edition in Spanish
