Sonnini travelled in Greece in 1778-1780. He visited Crete, Rhodes, Cyprus and many of the Cyclades and Dodecanese islands. Only Thessaloniki and Smyrna were visited from the cities, as plague was raging. A very important source for late 19th century Greece, including description of Thessaloniki, a city rarely visited that time. The impressive map of eastern Mediterranean is a masterpiece of cartography for the Levant.
