First edition, FOLIO, only the rare Atlas volume,without the texts volumes, contemporary publishers boards rubbed, spine chipped, plates clean with light marginal spotting in some plates, complete 37 copper engravings (16 folded or double page) on 29 sheets, including fine views and maps of several Greek areas around the Aegean, overall in very good condition.
Lechevalier visited the Levant with Choiseul Gouffier in the late 1770s, but his work took many time to be published disturbed by the French Revolution,he escaped in England. The cost of the fine engraved plates was high and this third edition is the only one illustrated with an Atlas, and the Atlas contain some of the most beautiful copper engravings on Greece ever printed, by the best French artists on that time after original drawings.
