Michael Joseph Quin (1796-1843) travelled to the Levant in 1832-33. He travelled by a steam boat down the Danube and arrived in Constantinople where he spent several months. He provides a very lengthy and accurate account for the life in Constantinople that time and many information about the economy, the society and the administration, in the aftermath of the Greek independence.From Constantinople he traveled to Mytilini and arrived in Sigri the 28th of October 1833. After a travel around the island,he continued to Smyrna, Vourla and Ephessos. He crossed the Aegean to newly independent Greece and after visiting Athens he returned via Italy.
