Tchihatcheff was the first explorer of Anatolia, spent almost ten years traveling on Asia Minor and compiled a huge work, a kind of encyclopedia for the peninsula, published in fascicules over twenty years, covering zoology, botany, paleontology, geology and geography. This is the most beautiful part of all publications, the atlas with fine views of many places in Asia Minor (including Smyrne, Trebizond, Sinopi, Kioutahia, etc),, for several places these are the earliest depictions.
