The first account on Thessaly is his Thesis, a scientific dissertation presented in the Academy in Paris that has been published honorifically by the Imperial Press (Imprimerie Imperiale) as excellent. The research on Pelion and Ossa was conducted in 1851-1852,he was sent by the French School to explore those still completely unknown Greek mountainous areas. He documented ancient inscriptions, medieval churches and the local economy and population. He was fascinated by how these communities maintain a level of autonomy and prosperity under Ottoman rule. He provide precise information of the paths, the flora and the local architecture. A cornerstone of 19th century topography of Thessaly. His second work on Greece is a detailed account on Fabvier contribution in the Greek Revolution during the 1820s. Probably the gathering of his works in the volume has been done after his election in the French Academy in 1874. All the scientific works of Mezieres are very rare.
