Muller-Simonis traveled with Hyvernat on a mission that was part scientific and part geographic, they traveled from Constantinople through Pontos to the Caucasus, around lake Van through the Armenian highlands down the plain of Tigris and Euphrates. It is a massive richly illustrated Folio volume, it contain detailed observations on Armenian churches and monasteries that will disappear forever in less than 20 years after. A very valuable ethnographic presentation of Eastern Asia Minor with the Greeks, Armenians, Kurds and Turks of the area still living together.
