Andreossy was a French general,he was sent to Constantinople in 1812 to conduct a scientific reconnaissance of the area,he focused on water, terrain and defense. He was the first to provide a true scientific explanation of the double current of Bosphorus. He conducted a survey of the ancient Byzantine and later Ottoman aqueducts.
