For the book:First edition. In 8vo, contemporary full leather, complete 348p., some light scattered browning, overall very good. A very interesting scarce abridged account of Ottoman history, published during Greek revolution, in order to provide a comprehensive situation of the Levant to a wider European public, eager to follow the contemporary events in Greece and the Levant. This copy belonged, most probably, to a French military officer who fought with the Egyptian army in Syria and Anatolia in 1832-33. For the Manuscript:Inside the book was found, an original manuscript of 2 pages, a contemporary copy of or a plan of a letter sent by Ibrahim Pasha (the well know general who invaded Morea) to the Sultan, signed Adana (Anatolia), juin 1833. The letter contains typical wording for the reestablishment of peace (lettre de remerciement).June 1833 was just after the peace signed between the Egyptians and the Ottomans at the conference of Kutahya, held at May 1833, which ceded Syria to Egypt. Adana was during June 1833 the headquarter of the Egyptian army and Ibrahim was present there. The Egyptian army was trained by French military and several French officers were present in this expedition (as in the Morea previously).Some of them had been used also for the diplomatic negotiations with the Sultan.
