An amazing gathering of early scientific publications for Erechtheion. Thiersch (ΘΙΕΡΣΟΣ) traveled in Greece in 1831/32 and became a monumental figure in the history of Modern Greece. He was the most passionate Philhellene of his time and the man who practically hand-picked Otto to become King of Greece. His scientific studies,extremely rare today as published in Academic publications of his time, are still reference. In the 1840s there was a fierce debate about how the Erechtheion originally looked. Thiersch wrote this extensive work, as a scholar, to defend his vision of the temple reconstruction, that was planned then by Paccard.. Mezger provided the architectural drawings in details. The reconstruction of the Erechtheion, largely destroyed during the Revolution, has been achieved based on Inwood previous detailed measurements, of Thiersch extensive research and Mezger drawings. A very important set for a landmark monument of Athens and Greece. The first owner of the set was Dr ΒΕΡΝΑΡΔΟΣ ΡΟΕΣΕΡ (Bernard Roeser 1806-1868), an ardent Bavarian Philhellene physician who came in Greece as personal doctor of Otton, married with a Greek lady and stayed finally in Greece,.
