Pouqueville was the authority on Greece during early 19th century and wrote this book to describe the country for a wide public as it was just after the independence. It is one of the very first publications with reference to Greece as an independent country. It is very richly illustrated with 112 lithographed views and maps depicting several places around Greece in the early 1830s.
