Sestini left for many years in the Levant and travelled in several parts of the Ottoman realm. This travel account cover his voyages in the south shores of the sea of Marmara in 1779 when he was in the service of count Ludolf. He was so impressed that all these areas were populated by dense Greek populations that titled his book Travels in the Asiatic Greece.
