First edition, complete: two volumes of text in 8vo and the ROYAL FOLIO Atlas, for all: contemporary leather over boards but not uniform, spines sunned, text clean and bright 350p., 293p.with 3 maps, including the very rare map of Santorini, atlas with 32 fine Folio plates with only few scattered spots in few plates, overall in almost fine condition, a lovely set.
Bussiere spent some time in Constantinople before travelling to the Aegean, he toured the Archipelago before his visit in Egypt. The work contain a long description of Santorini in volume one. The fine plates are lithographed by Engelmann after his own drawings and depict impressive views of Constantinople, Proussa (Bursa), Mytilini, Tenedos, other places in Asia Minor and Egypt.
