4to (22 × 18 cm). Contemporary full vellum, slightly soiled. Text with uniform light foxing and browning. Complete: three volumes in one, with engraved portrait, title in red and black, [4], 1024, [10] pp., and 30 engraved plates. Overall very good. Monconys traveled extensively throughout the Levant in the mid-17th century, visiting Constantinople, Anatolia, Syria, Egypt, and several Greek islands. His account is notable for its wide scope: beyond the usual travel narrative, he focused on natural history, chemistry, physics, astrology, antiquities, and detailed observations of local peoples. This is one of the earliest travel accounts by a figure with a scientific approach. The German edition is considerably rarer than the French original. Reference: Atabey 818; Blackmer 224 (for the French editions).
