The Chevalier de Bellerive left Spain sailing to Constantinople, where he spent time in the Galata district before continuing to Moldavia, then on the borders of the Ottoman Empire, where the war raged between the Russians and Peter the Great, who had encircled the Swedish forces and their King near the Black Sea on the Turkish border. Finally, the Swedish King entered Ottoman territory to escape and became a kind of prisoner of the Ottomans, kept initially in Bender and later in Didimoticho, today in Greek Thrace, where his old prison can still be seen. Bellerive remained with him during this time and provided a valuable account of his travels in the Balkans and Thrace in the early 18th century. Scarce account of the Levant.
