EUGENE PITTARD: Ethnologie de la Peninsule des Balkans. Geneve, Societe de Geographie de Geneve, 1904 First and only edition. In large 8vo (23x14 cm). Fine contemporary green cloth, preserving the publisher’s original paper covers. Text clean and bright, complete: 93 p. and two plates. Overall in almost fine condition. Pittard (1867–1926), the famous Swiss anthropologist, undertook an expedition in the Balkans at the height of the Macedonian Struggle to examine the ethnological composition of the region—then strongly disputed among several nations. This book, published in the official journal of the Swiss Geographical Society, presents the scientific results of his researches in Macedonia during the early 20th century. A very rare and valuable work for the history and ethnography of Macedonia.
