ΑΡΙΣΤΟΦΑΝΟΥΣ [ARISTOPHANIS]: ΚΩΜΩΔΙΑΙ ΕΝΔΕΚΑ COMOEDIAE UNDECIM. AVRELIAE ALLOBROGUM [GENEVA] 1607 Early 17th-century edition of all 11 surviving comedies of Aristophanes. Elegant Royal folio (36 × 23 cm). Contemporary full vellum, slightly soiled; upper cover with a c. 5 cm loss of vellum; manuscript title on spine. Text clean and bright with only very minor scattered spotting in a few pages. Greek text with parallel Latin translation. Complete: [22], 916, [28] pp. Overall a very good copy. Aristophanes’ works were highly praised from the early Renaissance onward. This handsome Geneva folio edition, edited by Edouard Biseti de Charlais, includes new commentaries and represents one of the important early modern scholarly treatments of the Athenian comic poet.
