BEAUVOISINS J.: Notice sur la Cour Ottomane. Paris 1807. Third edition (first also in 1807). Tall in 8vo 22 x 14 cm. Complete: half title, title, 110 p. Contemporary full leather slightly rubbed, some waterstaining. Overall very good. Beauvoisins, a French officer, was held prisoner first in Tripolitza and later in the Seven Towers from 1799 to 1801. After his release, he remained for some time in Constantinople. This fine and accurate description of the Ottoman Court in the very early 19th century is coupled with accounts of Constantinople and events in the Levant from 1798 to 1803 (including the Utchakoff expedition to Kerkyra). References: Atabey 86 (first edition), Blackmer 107 (fourth edition). RARE
