NEDIM COGGIA (HODJA): Lettres Turques-Lettres de Nedim Coggia. Amsterdam 1750 Second edition. In small 8vo 16 x 9 cm, contemporary full leather slightly rubbed, 2 volumes in one, text clean and bright. Complete with engraved title, 178 p.; engraved title, 228 p. Overall very good. Two works published together. The Letters of Nedim Hodja and The Turkish Lettersare among the very few printed books of the 18th century claiming a Turkish authorship. They are composed in the form of letters, a fashionable style in Europe at the time, and each letter contains a story from the Turkish Levant, mainly reflecting the society of 18th century Turkey. The stories of Hodja, with their solid historical background from Levantine sources, were also transmitted into Greek folk culture and memory. A scarce mid-18th century account.
