WILLIAM HEUDE: Viaggio dalla costa del Malabar a Constantinopoli, per il golfo Persico… il Kourdistan e la Turchia esequito nell anno 1817. Milano 1820 First edition in Italian. In 8vo 17 x 11 cm, contemporary leather over boards, some light wear. Text clean and bright. Complete: title, [9], 317 p., and one folding map (Persian Gulf to Constantinople), as called for. Overall very good. According Navari: an interesting work, rich in topographical and social observations. Heude traveled overland from the Persian Gulf through Anatolia to Constantinople. All these British officers attempted to evaluate different overland routes in an effort to establish a convenient land alternative from England to India. The project ultimately failed, but it offered Europeans a rare opportunity to access the interior of Asia Minor and discover the Christian population of Anatolia.
