Cramer J.: A Geographical and Historical description of Asia Minor. Oxford at the Clarendon Press 1832 First edition. Complete in two volumes, large 8vo 23 x 15 cm, later 19th-century red boards. Text clean and bright, with just some light scattered spotting in a few pages at the beginning of the second volume. Complete: title, [8], 473 p., [1]; title, 424 p., and a folded map , as called for. Overall a very good and lovely copy. Cramer’s Geographical and Historical Description of Asia Minor is a systematic study of the ancient topography of the Anatolian peninsula and many Aegean Sea islands, well before any excavations. It represents a detailed scientific study, published at the Oxford Clarendon Press. Cramer had previously studied the Greek peninsula in an analogous work on mainland Greece published in 1827, but the section on the Eastern Aegean islands (Lesvos, Chios, Kos, Rhodes, etc.), together with an additional specific chapter on Cyprus, was included in this volume on Asia Minor. References: Atabey 296, not in Blackmer.
