[HELMUT SANDER]: Erinnerungen eines ehemaligen Griechischen Offiziers aus den Jahren 1833-1837. Durmstadt 1839 First edition. In 8vo 19 x 12 cm, contemporary leather over marbled boards. Text with light scattered spotting in some pages. Complete: [12], 311 p. Manuscript ownership inscription on front pastedown of William St Clair, leading Hellenist, with his additional manuscript note: from the Library of Queen Frederika. With the bookplate of the Duke of Braunschweig and Royal Armorial ex-Libris on front pastedown. Overall in very good condition, with fine provenance. A Royal copy, ex-St Clair copy of a very rare work. Sander, a Bavarian officer, came to Greece and served in the Hellenic army for four years. His account provides a very detailed description of the actual situation of the Greek people and Greek society in the mid-1830s. Not in Atabey or Blackmer. Absent from all major collections of the Levant.
